  • Preseason men’s volleyball match results from Saturday

    The USC players backed-up coach Bill Ferguson comments earlier this week that this was the best preseason for the Trojans since he arrived at the school.

    USC in its preseason debut went undefeated at its annual home fall tournament, including winning all three of its matches Saturday.

  • Q&A with USC men’s volleyball coach Bill Ferguson

    There is plenty of optimism for the USC players and coaches this preseason — and for good reason after struggling last year.

    USC coach Bill Ferguson in an interview with Off the Block earlier this week called first half of his team’s preseason the best start to a training camp since he became the Trojans head coach. In addition, USC despite last season not qualifying for the MPSF Tournament for the first since 2006 returns a majority starters, and several players who missed most of the 2013 season because of injury are now returning to the court healthy.

  • USC coach: No issue if Christenson plays for U.S. in Grand Champions Cup

    USC coach Bill Ferguson is not only fine if his All-American setter Micah Christenson has to leave the team during the preseason to play with the U.S. Men’s National Team, he is encouraging it.

    Ferguson said in an interview with Off the Block on Tuesday that he hopes Christenson is selected to the U.S. roster for the upcoming FIVB World Grand Champions Cup because of the long-term benefits it would have for the setter and his team.

  • Loyola participates in Movember to raise money for cancer research

    Loyola players and coaches will have a little more facial hair this month in an effort raise money for cancer research.

    The Loyola athletics department announced during the weekend that the Ramblers men’s volleyball team will spearhead the school’s Movember team, which will grow mustaches to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer research.

  • Finalists selected to host men’s volleyball NCAA Tournaments in 2015-18

    After more than a dozen of bids were sumbitted, it’s now down to seven finalists to host the men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament in the upcoming years.

    The NCAA announced Wednesday afternoon that BYU, UCLA, IPFW, Ohio State, Penn State, USC and Stanford were all selected as finalists to play host to a NCAA Tournament between 2015 to 2018.

  • 10 intriguing sites where to play future NCAA Tournaments

    All the bids are in, but where the men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament will be played in the upcoming seasons remain uncertain.

    The NCAA on Wednesday is scheduled to announce the finalists and potentially the host sites for the 2015-18 NCAA Tournaments. While the NCAA did not reveal the names of the more than 20 bids submitted to host an upcoming men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament, there are several locations that could be ideal venues for the event.

  • Off the Block unveils new National Setter of the Year award

    A national award will be introduced during the upcoming season to recognize the best setter in college men’s volleyball.

    Off the Block announced Friday that beginning in the 2014 season it will present the National Setter of the Year award to the top NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball setter during the regular season.
