It’s that time of year when every team is hopeful, but there are those select teams have good reason to be even more optimistic about their chances of ending the year as NCAA champions.
With the regular season starting in less than a week, several teams begin the year as the favorites to be crowned national champions in May.

There’s always some safe preseason predictions to make every year — and than there’s the crazy, bold ones.
With the college men’s volleyball season less than two weeks away from starting, Off the Block is making its bold predictions on everything from conference championship races to what will happen in the NCAA championship match.
A lot has happened in college men’s volleyball since UC Irvine won the NCAA championship in May.

The preliminary round pools are set for one of the biggest annual non-conference tournaments in college men’s volleyball.
UC Santa Barbara earlier this week unveiled the tournament schedule and the two pool play groups for the newly reformatted UC Santa Barbara Invitational in January.

The NCAA Tournament will be played on its home-court and Loyola is now the preseason favorite to make the tournament as the MIVA champions.
The defending-conference champions Ramblers received all but one first-place vote to finish at the top of the MIVA preseason coaches poll that was released Friday morning.
There will be a NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball team in West Virginia starting in 2015.
The University of Charleston announced Wednesday that it will add men’s volleyball as a varsity sport beginning in the 2014-15 school year.

The battle for Ohio State’s starting setter will not be settled when the upcoming season begins.
Ohio State coach Pete Hanson said in an interview with Off the Block on Tuesday that he has not decided on a permanent starting setter and will give both junior Peter Heinen and freshman Christy Blough significant playing time at the start of the regular season.
