The long awaited expansion to the NCAA Tournament will finally be experienced tonight.
The inaugural NCAA Tournament play-in matches will begin with the No. 3 seed Stanford and its lengthy history of NCAA Tournament success playing the No. 6 seed Erskine in its first NCAA Tournament appearance. In addition, after Lewis getting a controversial at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament it will play Penn State in the other play-in match.
Stanford coach John Kosty isn’t worried about any lingering effects of losing in the MPSF championship — his team had already moved on from match before it left BYU.
Kosty said in an interview with Off the Block on Sunday that Stanford is excited to receive the at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and a chance at a rematch against BYU if it can win its play-in match.
The NCAA Tournament selection committee isn’t backing down from its decision to give Lewis an at-large bid.
Selection committee chairman Ron Shayka said in an exclusive interview with Off the Block on Monday that Lewis became the first non-West Coast school in 20 years to earn an at-large bid in part because of it’s difficult non-conference schedule.
It’s been a chaotic last two days for coach Mark Pavlik and his Penn State team.
Within a span of 24 hours the team went from winning its NCAA-record 16th consecutive conference championship on its home court to having to travel across the country for a NCAA Tournament match on Tuesday.
The NCAA Tournament brackets can now be filled out for a chance to win $50 and $25 Starbucks gift cards.
Off the Block announced at the start of the postseason it would reward the $50 gift card to any participant of its annual bracket challenge who can successfully predict every match result from the four conference tournaments and the six-team NCAA Tournament.
