    As noted before, this was a historic year for the high-level of production and sheer number of contributing seniors in college men’s volleyball. Since the season is over, Off the Block has crunched the numbers for 41 of the 43 with senior starters this past season, and we will be unveiling the data in a six-post installment.

    The percentage of production lost is from starting seniors only. Off the Block included liberos as starters, and some teams will have more than seven starters listed as some teams have two players split time as starters at a given position. (more…)

  • Lewis finishes atop final Division II coaches poll

    There is no surprise in the final Division II Coaches poll – Lewis finishes on top with all 10 first place votes. The Flyers finish the season having swept all of the first place votes for the final dozen weeks of the poll.

  • Highlights: Long Beach State block overwhelms Pepperdine

    Long Beach State outhit Pepperdine, .461 to .168, and outblocked them 14 to 2, in a four-game victory on Thursday night to advance the championship match versus top-seeded Hawai’i. Long Beach State outhit Pepperdine, .461 to .168, and outblocked them 14 to 2, in a four-game victory on Thursday night to advance the championship match versus top-seeded Hawai’i. Pepperdine was paced by opposite Michael Wexter who led the team with 12 kills, eight digs, and three aces. Check out the highlights of the match as recorded by associate editor Jonathan Bates.

  • Highlights: Hawai’i serve, block too much for Lewis to handle

    Hawai’i outhit Lewis, .368 to .221, and outblocked them, 14 to 4, in a four-game victory on Thursday evening to advance to the NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship. The Rainbow Warriors also had 10 aces to the Flyers’ one. Outside attacker Colton Cowell paced Hawai’i with 15 kills on a .481 attack percentage, while Lewis middle attacker Tyler Mitchem had 12 kills on a .526 attack percentage.   • Video: Hawai’i middle attacker reacts to semifinal victory over Lewis

    Hawai’i middle attacker Patrick Gasman had a match-high eight kills as the Rainbow Warriors used their block (14 for the match) to put away Lewis. Hawai’i leads the nation with 2.69 blocks per game, while Gasman is second nationally with 1.444 blocks per game.
