A lot happened in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball during the last 72 hours. Check out some of the top headlines and news from the college men’s volleyball weekend.
UCLA still undefeated – Outside attacker Sean Kelly had a match-high 15 kills on a .609 attack percentage as No. 1/1 UCLA swept No. 3/4 Hawai’i on Saturday. Setter Andrew Rowan also guided the Bruins offense to a .395 attack percentage and had a match-high four aces in front of a sold-out road crowd of 10,300 people. UCLA win this victory improves to 18-0 and remains the only undefeated team in the nation.
UCSB pulls off stunner – No. 12 UC Santa Barbara overcame a late two-point deficit and then fought off two match-point as it upset No. 4/3 UC Irvine in a fifth-game overtime. Outside attacker George Bruening had a match-high 20 kills with six kills coming in the decisive game.
Stanford doubles up on upsets – Opposite Moses Wagner had a combined 41 kills as No. 18 Stanford swept a two-match home series against No. 7/7 BYU during the weekend. Wagner had at least 20 kills and hit more than .300 in both of the conference wins.
Lees-McRae continues to roll – Lees-McRae defeated North Greenville and King during the weekend to extend its winning streak to six matches and move into third place in the ConfCarolinas. Pin-hitter Ben Fincham had a combined 39 kills in the two victories, including a match-high 26 kills in the five-game win against North Greenville. The Bobcats at 10-8 now have their third 10-win season in the last 10 years and are attempting to finish with a winning record for the first time since 2013.
McKendree knocks off Lindenwood – No. 13 McKendree limited No. 8/8 Lindenwood to its third lowest attack percentage of the season at .230 en route a four-game victory Friday. The Bearcats won the conference match despite hitting .194. The loss ended Lindenwood’s six-match winning streak and dropped the team out of first place in the MIVA.
Fort Valley State dominant in SIAC – Freshman Jamari Griffin had both a match-high nine kills and three aces as Fort Valley State defeated Benedict on Saturday to complete the home-and-home series sweep. The Wildcats are now in sole possession of first place in the SIAC and are on a 26-match conference winning streak dating back to 2024.
Missouri S&T gets its revenge – Missouri S&T defeated Rockhurst in five games on Friday to split the two-match series. Middle attacker Tyler Johnwick had a match-high seven blocks and added 11 kills on a .429 attack percentage against Rockhurst. Rockhurst beat Missouri S&T on Thursday to open the two-match series between the two GLVC teams ranked in the Division II coaches poll.
St. Thomas Aquinas atop ECC – Outside attacker Kyran Versteegen had a match-high 17 kills on a .577 attack percentage in a sweep against American International on Saturday. The Trojans with this victory moved into sole possession of first place in the ECC.
Barry with historic win – Barry defeated Manhattan in four games on Saturday for the second-year program’s first win against a Division I opponent. The IVA school has now won nine of its last 10 matches.
Ohio State offense ends skid – No. 16 Ohio State finished with a .509 attack percentage in a conference road sweep against No. 19 Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday. The Buckeyes entered this match on a five-match losing streak.
