The interim tag is being removed from Mike Iandolo’s title.
Ball State announced Wednesday that it has elevated Iandolo to be the men’s volleyball team’s head coach.
Iandolo has served as the program’s interim head coach for the last six months since former head coach Donan Cruz departed the school. The coach prior to this promotion spent four seasons as an assistant coach on Cruz’s staff and helped guide the Cardinals to three MIVA regular season titles.
“After observing Mike Iandolo lead our men’s volleyball team for the past six months, I am confident he is the right coach to guide our program into the future,” athletics director Jeff Mitchell said in a statement. “He has earned the status as head coach with the way he has commanded the respect of his team and by the level of preparation he has demonstrated in terms of recruiting and competitive development. I look forward to Coach Iandolo continuing to promote and advance the excellence and consistency of Ball State men’s volleyball.”
This will be Iandolo’s second head coaching stint in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball. Iandolo also served as the head coach of Charleston from from 2019-21 and led the program to its EIVA Tournament appearance.
Iandolo will be the fifth head coach in Ball State’s 61-year program history.
Ball State after opening last season in the top 10 of the national rankings ended the season in fifth place in the MIVA and lost in the conference tournament quarterfinals. Among the starters returning for the Cardinals includes outside attacker Patrick Rogers who earlier this week was named the Preseason MIVA Player of the Year.
