U.S. sweeps Puerto Rico to finish undefeated in U21 Pan Am Cup pool-play

There was no let down for the United States after already clinching a berth in the gold-medal match.

Hawai’i incoming transfer Trevell Jordan had a match-high three blocks and added seven kills on .700 attack percentage as the United States swept Puerto Rico 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 in its pool-play finale of the U21 NORCECA Pan American Cup on Saturday in Canada.

Jordan did not commit an attack error against Puerto Rico. In addition, the middle attacker had a game-high four kills in the final game to help secure the sweep.

The United States out-hit Puerto Rico .329 to .092 and had three players finish with more than five kills.

Along with Jordan, UCLA incoming freshman Marek Turner had a match-high 10 kills. UC Santa Barbara pin-hitter Riggs Guy also contributed nine kills on a .438 attack percentage, including a game-high four kills in the second game.

Guy and pin-hitter Victor Loiola in the victory each added a match-high two aces.

Dylan Velazquez Sierra in the loss led Puerto Rico with nine kills, while Ohio State middle attacker Eliel Torres had eight kills.

Ohio State setter Daniel Henwood Roriquez led all players defensively with nine digs.

The United States entered this finale a day after securing a spot in the gold-medal match and finished pool-play as the only undefeated team at the tournament.

Canada as a result of the Puerto Rico loss clinched the other spot in the gold-medal match.

The United States defeated Canada in four games on Thursday – the only time the United States dropped a game in pool-play. Long Beach State pin-hitter Sebastinao in the victory finished with a match-high 19 kills on a .471 attack percentage.
