Ball State tapped into the top of the IVA to round out its coaching staff.
The Cardinals announced recently that former Lincoln Memorial head coach Brian Hogg and former Barry head coach Charles Norman will join Ball State as assistant coaches.
Hoggs led the Railsplitters to back-to-back IVA Tournament championships and won IVA Coach of the Year honors in both seasons as the team’s head coach. Lincoln Memorial under Hoggs finished last season 24-1 and was ranked in the national coaches poll.
Norman guided the first-year program Barry to 10 victories last season, including three wins against ConfCarolinas teams. The Buccaneers also ended the 2025 season in the nation’s top five for blocks per game average.
These moves complete summer coaching staff overhaul for Ball State.
Mike Iandolo was elevated from assistant coach to the interim head coach after Donan Cruz opted to step down. In addition, long-time assistant coach Chris Rupert departed to become an assistant coach with the South Carolina women’s volleyball team.
Ball State has won three MIVA regular season championships in the last four seasons and advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals in 2022.
The Cardinals are slated to return multiple starters for the upcoming season, including All-MIVA outside attacker Patrick Rogers.
