U.S. sweeps Canada to stay undefeated at U19 Pan Am Cup

The serving came up big for the United States with first place on the line in its group.

The United States finished nine aces as it swept Canada 25-20, 27-25, 25-17 on Wednesday in Mexico to remain undefeated in group-play at the U19 NORCECA Pan American Cup.

Six U.S. players had at least one ace in the victory highlighted with Penn State commit Isiah Powell having a match-high three aces. Ball State commit Dante Cayaban added two aces against Canada.

The United States had a match-best .500 attack percentage in the opening game and for the match out-hit Canada .285 to .254.

BYU Corbin Batista led the United States with nine kills, including having the game-winning kill in the second-game overtime. Pin-hitter Logan Hutnick contributed seven kills, while USC commit Blake Fahlbusch had six kills.

Canadian pin-hitter Mason Lange finished with a match-high 10 kills and had seven of those kills in the second game.

Canada in the loss had two aces and committed 24 service errors โ€“ nine more service errors than the United States.

The United States with this victory clinches a quarterfinals berth. The team also can secure a bye to the semifinals and win the Group A championship if it beats Puerto Rico in its group-play finale on Thursday.

Puerto Rico lost to Venezuela in three games on Wednesday and has yet to win a set in group-play.
