Another big offensive performance from outside attacker Grant Lamoureux was not enough for the United States against Brazil.

Lamoureux finished with a match-high 12 kills as the United States lost to Brazil 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 on Monday in pool-play at the FIVB U19 World Championship in Uzbekistan.

The Pepperdine sophomore opened the match with a game-high five kills in the first game. Brazil, though, limited Lamoureux to a tournament-low .167 attack percentage.

This was the fourth consecutive pool-play match that Lamoureux had double-digit kills. Lamoureux also is tied seventh among all players at the tournament with 64 kills.

Brazil out-hit the United States .230 to .208, including having a match-best .355 attack percentage in the second game.

Lamoureux was one of three U.S. players to have more than five kills. Middle attacker Thomas Henige had seven kills on a .667 attack percentage, while Hawai’i commit Roman Payne contributed six kills.

Both pin-hitters Lucas Righi Carvalho and Diogo dos Anjos Pereira led Brazil with 10 kills.

The United States with this loss drops into fourth place in its pool entering the final day of pool-play.

The top four teams in the six-team pool at the end pool-play will advance to the Round of 16. The United States can clinch a spot in the Round of 16 if it beats South Korea in its pool-play finale or if Colombia loses to Finland in its finale.

Finland defeated South Korea in a showdown of undefeated teams on Monday to move into first place in the pool.
