Make it back-to-back years of Parker Van Buren being the top opposite in college men’s volleyball
Off the Block announced Thursday that a nationwide voting committee for the second consecutive season selected the Loyola opposite as the recipient of the 2025 Bryan Ivie Award.
The Bryan Ivie Award, which is named after the former USC All-American and U.S. Olympian, is presented to the nation’s best opposite in NCAA men’s volleyball during the regular season.
Van Buren finished in the nation’s top 10 with both a 4.39 kills per game average and a .403 attack percentage. The senior opposite had at least 20 kills in seven matches, including a match-high 22 kills on a .436 attack percentage against Lewis in the MIVA Tournament semifinals.
Van Buren also was in the nation’s top 15 averaging 0.48 aces per game and helped Loyola win the MIVA championship and reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.
The voting committee for the Bryan Ivie Award was comprised of more than 25 coaches and media members from around the nation. The top three vote-getters were named finalists for the Bryan Ivie Award.
Van Buren garnered 57 votes – more votes than the other two finalists had combined. CSUN opposite Jalen Phillips ended as the runner-up with 32 votes, while Lewis opposite Oguzhan Oguz finished in third place with 11 votes.
This is the 11th year that Off the Block has presented the Bryan Ivie Award.
