A program that reached the NCAA Tournament twice in the last three years is no more.
Grand Canyon announced Monday that it has opted to disband its men’s volleyball program.
The university in a four-paragraph announcement on the school’s website cited the “evolving college athletics landscape” as the reason for terminating the program. The school also noted the lack of schools in the Mountain West Conference with men’s volleyball programs.
Grand Canyon in 17 seasons was ranked in the top 10 of the national coaches poll more than 75 times, including being ranked No. 1 during the second half of the 2024 season.
The Antelopes in 2023 earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. In addition, Grand Canyon the following season won the MPSF Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals.
Grand Canyon finished this season at No. 11 in the national coaches poll and lost in the MPSF Tournament quarterfinals.
The Antelopes initially began their program as an independent before joining the MIVA. The program then departed the Midwest-based conference to join the MPSF in 2018.
The university while terminating the program announced that it will continue to honor any existing athletic scholarships for current Grand Canyon men’s volleyball programs.
Irresponsable mother fuckers, should had advise before recruiting players.
