Edward Waters rallies from two-game deficit, beats Benedict in SIAC opener

Outside attacker Richard Hendricks provided exactly Edward Waters needed to complete a comeback in the conference opener.

Hendricks led all players with a season-high 28 kills on a .460 attack percentage as Edward Waters rallied to beat Benedict 15-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 16-14 on Wednesday in Columbia, South Carolina.

Hendricks finished with a game-high six kills in the decisive fifth game to help the Tigers end their 10-match losing streak. The junior from Jamaica also had a combined 18 kills and one attack error in the final three games of the comeback win.

The Tigers (1-10, 1-0 SIAC) had three players finish with double-digit kills in the road victory.

Along with Hendricks, pin-hitters Omari Morris and Devonte Haron each had contributed 12 kills. Morris also had a .429 attack percentage and did not commit an attack error in the last three games.

Edward Waters despite being held to a negative attack percentage in the opening game out-hit Benedict for the match .279 to .219.

Pin-hitter Camron Petillo in the loss led Benedict with 18 kills on a .343 attack percentage, while Hakan Godoy added 11 kills and hit .368. In addition, Godoy had a kill to a fight off an Edward Waters match-point and force overtime.

Benedict (3-6, 0-3 SIAC) with this loss is now on a four-match losing streak.
