What to know: The U.S. path for a championship title at the FIVB Volleyball Nations League goes right through the defending Olympic gold medalists. The top-seed United States having won seven of its last eight matches will play France in the quarterfinals. This will be the second meeting between the two teams in the last two weeks. Former Penn State outside attacker Aaron Russell finished with a match-high 11 kills as the United States swept France en route to going undefeated during a four-match homestand. Russell, who missed the recent Olympics because of an injury, had double-digit kills in three matches during the Volleyball Nations League preliminary round. Along with Russell, former Long Beach State outside attacker TJ DeFalco leads the United State and is among the tournament’s leaders with both 112 kills and a 51.85 percent offensive efficiency rating. DeFalco also is one of 11 players with at least 15 aces in the preliminary round. France won three of its final four matches to earn the final quarterfinals berth. Trevor Clevenot in eight preliminary round matches led France with 80 kills and had a 48.48 percent offensive efficiency rating.
