Top 10 college men’s volleyball transfers this offseason

There has been plenty of activity in the college men’s volleyball transfer portal throughout the offseason.

Check out the top 10 transfers of note playing for new NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball teams this upcoming season.

1. Jaylen Jasper, Pepperdine
Jasper in 2020 with Standard was seventh in the nation with a 4.11 kills per game average en route to earning First-Team All-MPSF honors for the second time in his career. The graduate transfer opted out of the 2021 college season but earlier this year was named to the U.S. Men’s Collegiate National Team.

2. Sam Kobrine, USC
Kobrine finished last season eighth in the nation with a 10.34 assists per game average and guided the UCLA offense to the fifth-best attack percentage in the nation at .330. In addition, the All-MPSF setter switches sides in the crosstown rival after having both a career-high 136 digs and 38 blocks in 2021.

3. Kyler Presho, Hawai’i
Presho transferred from Stanford after last season being in the nation’s top 20 with a 1.04 blocks per game average. The All-MPSF middle attacker also had a .411 attack percentage – the third time in the last four seasons he hit more than .400.

4. Michal Podgorzak, Quincy
Podgorzak had a nation-best 3.31 digs per game average as he was named a finalist for the 2021 Erik Shoji Award as the nation’s top libero. The All-Independent Team graduate transfer while playing with Limestone was in the nation’s top 10 for digs per game average each of the last three seasons.

5. Francisco Salinger Cenzual, Quincy
Cenzual had 727 career kills in four seasons at Limestone, including being in the nation’s top 20 with a 3.62 kills per game average on a career-best .319 attack percentage in 2020. The graduate transfer and 2018 ConfCarolinas Freshman of the Year also had double-digit in nine matches last season.

6. Kupono Browne, BYU
Browne earned Freshman All-American Team honors with Stanford last season. The outside attacker had double-digit kills in four matches, including a season-high 22 kills on a .362 attack percentage in a loss to Pepperdine.

7. Avery Enriques, Hawai’i
Enriques had double-digit digs in two of Grand Canyon’s final three matches last season. The libero, who returns to his home state, also had a career-high 103 digs during the abbreviated 2020 season.

8. Calvin Sanborn, Long Beach State
Sanborn playing for Orange Coast College was second in the Orange Empire Conference with a 4.14 kills per game average on a .383 attack percentage last season. The junior college transfer also had an ace in every match he played in 2021 to accompany a conference-best 0.62 aces per game average.

9. Christos Gkitersos, Concordia-Irvine
Gkitersos was in the nation’s top 20 last season with a 9.49 assists per game average and guided the Limestone offense to at least a .300 attack percentage six matches. The setter also had a career-high 113 digs and 48 blocks in 2021, including a season-high five blocks in a victory against Erskine.

10. Jake Whyte, Tusculum
Whyte was second on Erskine last season with a 2.77 kills per game average and had double-digit kills in 11 matches. In addition, Whyte was among the nation’s leaders in 2020 averaging 3.05 kills per game.
