Championship round set for OTB, Frisco Mo National Player of Month

Six players based on your votes have an opportunity to win a college men’s volleyball national award for their outstanding performances in February.

North Greenville’s Sergio Carrillo, BYU’s Gabi Garcia Fernandez, Hawai’i’s Patrick Gasman, Ball State’s Quinn Isaacson, USC’s Cole Paxson and Ohio State’s Sotiris Siapanis all advanced to the championship round of the National Player of the Month.

The Off the Block/Frisco Mo National Player of the Month recognizes the best individual performances from NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball players during the month and gives volleyball fans from around the world the chance to determine who was the best player.

The National Player of the Month is a two-round event with the opening round consisting of finalists being placed into one of five ballots based on their position. The five winners on the position ballots advanced to the championship round, along with the runner-up who received the most votes.

Online voting for the championship round is underway, and the polls will close at 10 p.m. (CST) Thursday. The individual receiving the most votes will be the National Player of the Month for January.

While there are several weekly awards in college men’s volleyball, this is the only monthly national award presented in the sport. It is also one of the two national awards determined solely by the fans.

OTB/Frisco Mo National Player of the Month

Sergio Carrillo, North Greenville — Carrillo finished the month second in the ConfCarolinas with a 10.29 assists per game average and had at least five blocks in three matches.

Gabi Garcia Fernandez, BYU — Fernandez finished with double-digit kills in every match during the month and in two of those matches had zero attack errors and hit at least .800.

Patrick Gasman, Hawai’i — Gasman finished the month with a .545 attack percentage and had six blocks in three consecutive matches.

Quinn Isaacson, Ball State — Issacson guided the Ball State offense to more than a .300 attack percentage in four consecutive matches during February and leads the MIVA with a 10.76 assists per game average.

Cole Paxson, USC — Paxson had double-digit digs in three matches during the month, including 12 digs in an upset victory against UCLA.

Sotiris Siapanis, Ohio State — Siapanis ended the month averaging 3.47 kills per game on a .352 attack percentage and had at least five digs in four matches.
