Time to empty the notebook that is filled with college men’s volleyball news and notes. Check out some of the more interesting news tidbits and other notes involving college men’s volleyball teams and players.

2021 class unveiled for AVCA Hall of Fame
Two individuals with ties to college men’s volleyball will be enshrined into the AVCA Hall of Fame. Jim McLaughlin and Jim Stone were among the four individuals included in the latest Hall of Fame class that will be formally inducted in December. McLaughlin guided USC to the 1990 NCAA championship and during his tenure with the Trojans helped produce 15 All-Americans. Stone was a two-time All-MIVA selection at Ball State before starting his coaching career and accumulated more than 500 career wins with the Ohio State women’s volleyball team.

Ball State hires two assistant coaches
First-year head coach Donan Cruz has finalized his Ball State coaching staff for the upcoming season. Mike Iandolo joins Ball State as an assistant coach after spending the last three years serving as the head coach at Charleston. In addition, Princeton volunteer assistant coach Christian Rupert will be a part of the Ball State staff as an assistant coach.

Harvard selects new team captains
Harvard coach Brain Baise announced recently that setter Buddy Scott and libero Jason Shen will serve as the team captains for the 2022 season. Scott is a two-time EIVA All-Academic Team selection and appeared in 11 matches during his first two seasons. Shen also is a two-time EIVA All-Academic Team selection and has double-digit digs in five career matches.Harvard is returning to the court for the 2022 season after opting out of last season because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Former Ball State assistant goes to in-state rival
Purdue Fort Wayne announced it hired Jim Palilonis to be its newest assistant coach. Palilonis spent the last 16 seasons as an assistant coach with Ball State where he was responsible for working with the setters, helping develop the offensive strategy and serving as the recruiting coordinator.

Lincoln Memorial adds to coaching staff
Coach John Cash has promoted Jorge Collazo to be an assistant coach for the upcoming season. Collazo, a former libero at McKendree, served as an graduate assistant on the Lincoln Memorial coaching staff last season. The Railsplitters with Collazo on the sidelines won the IVA Tournament championship in 2021 for the third straight season.
