Big home win propels Lewis in new national media poll

Lewis got an early-season signature non-conference victory and is being rewarded in the national media poll.

The Flyers soared two spots to No. 7 in the newest Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Media Poll that was released Tuesday.

Lewis defeated then-No. 5/7 Pepperdine in four games on Saturday to extend its winning streak to three matches. In addition, the Flyers in the home win out-blocked the Waves 13.5 to 4 with middle attacker Jacob Schmiegelt having five blocks along with 15 kills on a .737 attack percentage.

Pepperdine following the loss dropped two spots to No. 9 in media poll.

Ohio State for the second consecutive week remains the unanimous No. 1 team in the rankings. The defending NCAA champions swept a two-match road series against No. 10/10 Stanford during the weekend to remain undefeated.

UCLA, BYU, Hawai’i and Long Beach State also round-out the top five of the new media poll.

The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Media Poll is the only rankings in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball solely determined by media members. The 10 teams receiving the most votes are ranked in the National Media Poll, while other schools earning votes but finishing outside of the top 10 are considered teams receiving votes.
