What to know: Two teams that already have signature non-conference victories will face each other in an early-season non-conference match. No. 10/10 Penn State will begin a two-match Midwest road trip, its longest road trip this season, as it plays the defending-NCAA champions No. 6/5 Loyola. Penn State opened its season with a sweep against then-No. 12 USC last week, while Loyola ended a two-match losing streak with a five-game victory against then-No. 2 UC Irvine during the weekend. Outside attacker Jalen Penrose led Penn State with a combined 34 kills in its two matches and had a .462 attack percentage against USC. In addition, middle attacker Matt Seifert was named the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week after having a team-high seven blocks against then-No. 5 UCLA on Friday. Loyola opposite Ricky Gevis finished with a team-high 15 kills on a .565 attack percentage to help the Ramblers beat the Anteaters for their first win of the season. The Ramblers are on a four-match winning streak against the Nittany Lions dating back to 2014. Penn State also has only won one time in road matches against Loyola since 2009.
