    There is plenty of optimism for the USC players and coaches this preseason — and for good reason after struggling last year.

    USC coach Bill Ferguson in an interview with Off the Block earlier this week called first half of his team’s preseason the best start to a training camp since he became the Trojans head coach. In addition, USC despite last season not qualifying for the MPSF Tournament for the first since 2006 returns a majority starters, and several players who missed most of the 2013 season because of injury are now returning to the court healthy.

  • USC coach: No issue if Christenson plays for U.S. in Grand Champions Cup

    USC coach Bill Ferguson is not only fine if his All-American setter Micah Christenson has to leave the team during the preseason to play with the U.S. Men’s National Team, he is encouraging it.

    Ferguson said in an interview with Off the Block on Tuesday that he hopes Christenson is selected to the U.S. roster for the upcoming FIVB World Grand Champions Cup because of the long-term benefits it would have for the setter and his team.

  • Finalists selected to host men’s volleyball NCAA Tournaments in 2015-18

    After more than a dozen of bids were sumbitted, it’s now down to seven finalists to host the men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament in the upcoming years.

    The NCAA announced Wednesday afternoon that BYU, UCLA, IPFW, Ohio State, Penn State, USC and Stanford were all selected as finalists to play host to a NCAA Tournament between 2015 to 2018.

  • USC setter Christenson leads U.S. to NORCECA championship

    USC setter Micah Christenson made the most of his debut with the U.S. Men’s National Team and is returning home with a championship.

    Christenson guided the offense to a .460 attack percentage as the United States sweep Canada 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 to win the NORCECA Continental Championship on Saturday in Langley, Canada.

  • USC setter Christenson selected to U.S. roster for NORCECA Championships

    USC setter Micah Christenson will have one of the biggest international tournaments of the year to make his case for why he belongs on United States roster for the next Olympics.

    The All-American junior was one of 12 players selected Friday afternoon to the U.S. National Team roster for the upcoming NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship.

  • Top 10 storylines from college men’s volleyball during the summer

    So much for a quiet off-season summer in college men’s volleyball.

    The last three months produced everything from the announcement of what conferences will have to participate in the new NCAA Tournament play-in match to schools scheduling big non-conference matches for the upcoming season.   • USC adds road non-conference matches vs. Loyola, Lewis for 2014 season

    For the first time in almost 15 years, USC will travel to the Midwest for a non-conference match.

    USC earlier this week unveiled its 2014 schedule that included the team opening its season with road non-conference matches against Loyola and Lewis on Jan. 4-5.

  • USC recruit Yoder wins bronze for USA at Youth World Championship

    An incoming freshman recruit for USC has now added an international tournament medal to his resume before playing with the Trojans.

    USC recruit Lucas Yoder and his partner TJ DeFalco representing the United States beat Lithuania’s Lukas Kazdailis and Arnas Rumsevicius 22-24, 21-18, 15-8 to win the bronze medal at the FIVB Boys’ U19 Youth World Championships for beach volleyball on Sunday in Portugal.

  • Volleyball Magazine reveals 2013 Player of the Year, All-American teams

    There is a split decision this year to the National Player of the Year.

    BYU outside attacker Taylor Sander was named the 2013 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year — one month after the All-American junior lost the AVCA National Player of the Year honor to Long Beach State outside attacker Taylor Crabb. (more…)

  • Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year: First-round voting

    Off the Blocked selected and seeded the 65 players in a bracket, and now it is up to the fans to determine who should win the Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year.

    The Fan Choice Player of the Year recognizes the best individual performances from NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball players during the season and gives volleyball fans from around the world the chance decide the winner through online voting.
