  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    The conference tournaments are still two weeks away but this weekend will have a postseason feel because of all the big matches with conference tournament seeding implications.

    No. 3 BYU will open a two-match series at No. 4 UCLA with a chance to win the MPSF regular season title, while No. 8 Ohio State and No. 9 Lewis will continue to battle for first place in the MIVA.

  • My men’s volleyball media poll ballot

    The team on the nation’s longest winning streak has climbed its way to the top of the national rankings.

    USC after extending its winning streak to 12 matches with two victories during the weekend jumped one spot to No. 1 in the new national media poll released Tuesday.

  • Deeper look at men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament selection criteria

    USC is in third place in the MPSF, but a deeper look into the NCAA Tournament selection committee criteria shows the Trojans faring more favorably than other teams in contention for the at-large bid.

    With less than one month until Selection Sunday, the race for the lone at-large bid and seeding for the NCAA Tournament remains tight among the nation’s top teams. In addition, the Trojans’ nation-best 13-match winning streak and several upsets last week has resulted in that gap continuing to narrow.

  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    It doesn’t get much bigger than this in regular season play.

    Two matches between top-five nationally ranked teams highlight this weekend. No. 1 UC Irvine and No. 3 UCLA meet with first place in the MPSF on the line, while No. 2 USC and No. 5 Stanford play each other with both teams trying to bolster their resume for the NCAA Tournament selection committee.

  • Top 5 men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    The biggest weekend of the regular season will begin with several critical matches occurring across the nation.

    No. 10 Ohio State will try to move back into the top three of the MIVA standings as it plays host to Loyola in a nationally televised match. In addition, out on the West Coast two top 10 teams face each other as No. 5 Stanford travels to No. 8 Pepperdine.

    The majority of teams being on bye weeks created more stability in the national rankings this week.

    UCLA moving past BYU to No. 3 and Long Beach State jumping ahead of Ohio State to No. 9 were the only changes in the new top 10 national media poll released Tuesday.

  • No change to top 5 in new Relative Strength Factor rankings

    The top of the Off the Block Relative Strength Factor rankings remains the same for the second straight week.

    UC Irvine following its bye week remains No. 1, while USC, Lewis, Stanford and USC all stayed in the top five in the new RSF rankings that Off the Block released Monday.
