  • Lewis’ blocking upends Ohio State to clinch NCAA Tourney berth

    Lewis big blocks lifted the program from the NCAA death bed and back to the NCAA Tournament.

    Lewis had a season-high 20 blocks as it rallied to defeat Ohio State 20-25, 25-17, 22-25, 27-25, 15-10 in the MIVA Tournament championship match on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. The victory clinches the Flyers first appearance in the Final Four since the program received the men’s volleyball version of the NCAA death penalty less than 10 years ago.

  • Conference tournament men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    Three spots in the four-team NCAA Tournament will be set by the end of the night.

    It’s Championship Saturday in college men’s volleyball as EIVA, MIVA and MPSF Tournament championship matches will be played tonight — and each match-up could get more intriguing as the night progresses.

  • Deeper look at men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament selection criteria

    The conference tournament championship matches are set and Final Four picture is slowly starting to become clearer – but not by much.

    With Selection Sunday looming, UC Irvine and Stanford’s victories in the MPSF Tournaments have given them a leg-up in the race to get a spot in the NCAA Tournament. However, a closer look at the criteria used by the selection committee shows nothing in the field is decided going into championship Saturday.

  • Conference tournament men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    It’s all about the Midwest tonight in college men’s volleyball.

    The MIVA Tournament will resume tonight with two rivalry matches in the semifinals. Ohio State will begin its title defense with a match against its oldest rival Ball State, while two geographical rivals in Lewis and Loyola will meet in the other semifinal.

    UCLA’s chances of an at-large bid vanished Saturday with its postseason loss, but four teams remain in a tight race for spot in the Final Four.

    With the conference tournaments underway and Selection Sunday in five days, the race for the lone at-large bid and seeding for the NCAA Tournament remains tight among the nation’s top teams. In addition, a closer look at the criteria used by the selection committee shows because of the close race the conference tournament semifinal matches could have an increased significance in determining this year’s at-large bid.

  • My men’s volleyball media poll ballot

    USC will end the regular season as the unanimous No. 1 in the national rankings.

    The Trojans after winning the MPSF regular season championship during the weekend received every first-place vote in the new national media poll released Tuesday.
