George Mason releases 2012 schedule: 5 things to know about this schedule

Non-conference matches against USC and Pepperdine and a rematch against Penn State highlights the 2012 George Mason regular season schedule that the team released Tuesday.

The Patriots finished last season in second place in the EIVA Tait Division and advanced to the conference tournament semifinals. George Mason has four starters returning for the upcoming season, including All-EIVA outside attacker Mark Jones.

Harvard releases 2012 schedule: 5 things to know about this schedule

A three-match West Coast road trip and a home match against Penn State highlights the 2012 Harvard regular season schedule that the team released Friday.

Harvard finished last season tied for last place in the EIVA Hay Division and did not qualify for the EIVA Tournament. The Crimson have all seven starters returning for the upcoming season.

Cal State Northridge releases 2012 schedule: 5 things to know about this schedule

Non-conference matches against some of the top MIVA teams and an eight-match mid-season homestand highlights Cal State Nothridge’s 2012 regular season schedule.

Cal State Nothridge ended last season tied for last place in the MPSF and missed the conference tournament for the first time since 2001. Matadors coach Jeff Campbell has five starters returning for the upcoming season, including 2011 All-MPSF Freshman Team middle attacker Greg Faulkner.

NCAA penalizes Rutgers-Newark with scholarship reduction for low APR score

For the second conseuctive seaosn, Rutgers-Newark will lose almost half a scholarship because of its Academic Progress Rate score.

The Scarlet Raiders were penalized a 0.43 scholarship reduction after scoring a 892 out of a possible 1,000 points in the annual APR report that the NCAA released Tuesday.

The APR measures a team’s academic scholastic performance during a four-year period based on the retention and eligibility of each athlete on scholarship. Teams with less than 925 score have the potential to receive NCAA penalties ranging from losing scholarships to a reduction in practice time.

Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year: Round 1

Off the Block created the bracket and seeded 64 of the best college men’s volleyball players. Now it’s up to you determine who should be the Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year.

The Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year tournament is the only contest that allows the fans to completely determine who should be the national player of the year.

The online voting for the 32 first-round matches will end at 11 p.m. Wednesday. The winners will advance to the second round Thursday.

Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year tournament to begin Wednesday

The Off the Block Fan Choice Player of the Year will begin Wednesday, giving fans from around the nation the opportunity to determine the best college men’s volleyball player during the 2011 season.

Off the Block has created a six-round 64-player bracket tournament matching up the best men’s volleyball players. Now it’s up to the fans through online voting to determine who should be the winner of each match-up.

Every round will last one day with the polls closing at 11 p.m. (EST). The player with the most votes when the polls close will advance to the next round.
