  • NCAA semifinals postmatch news conference: BYU vs. Penn State

    For the first time in almost a decade, BYU is back in the national championship match.

    The No. 1 seed BYU overcame a five-point deficit in the third game to complete the sweep against the No. 4 seed Penn State in the NCAA Tournament semifinals on Thursday in Los Angeles.

    Following the match, the coaches and players from both BYU and Penn State addressed the media in a postmatch news conference. Check out what each team had to say about the semifinal match.

  • BYU coach McGown selected as National Coach of the Year

    Add another top coaching award to BYU coach Chris McGown’s list this season.

    Hours before BYU plays in its men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament semifinals match, the AVCA announced Thursday afternoon that McGown was selected as the 2013 Men’s Division I-II National Coach of the Year.

  • Q&A with BYU at men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament media day

    BYU coach Chris McGown and several Cougar players participated in the NCAA Tournament media day on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

    BYU enters the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall after winning the MPSF championship during the weekend and will play the No. 4 seed Penn State in the semifinals Thursday.

  • BYU coach McGown selected as 2013 MPSF Coach of the Year

    Chris McGown three days after winning his first conference championship has now taken the conference’s top coaching honor.

    The league announced Wednesday that BYU’s second-year head coach McGown was selected as the 2013 MPSF Coach of the Year.

  • Q&A with BYU men’s volleyball coach Chris McGown

    For the first time since 2004, BYU is in the men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament after winning its conference championship during the weekend.

    BYU under second-year head coach Chris McGown earned the No. 1 overall seed in the four-team NCAA Tournament and will play the No. 4 seed Penn State in the semifinals on Thursday in Los Angeles.

  • Projected preseason top 10 national rankings: No. 1 BYU

    BYU is projected by Off the Block to be No. 1 in the preseason national rankings.

    Off the Block throughout December and January will reveal its projected men’s volleyball preseason top 10 national rankings and will profile a top-10 team each day. The Off the Block projected preseason rankings were created independently of the AVCA Coaches Poll and the Volleyball Magazine Top 10 Media Poll.

    The college men’s volleyball season begins this week and concludes with the Final Four in May.

  • Legendary coaches McGown, Wilton join BYU as assistants for 2012 season

    Two former head coaches who led teams to NCAA men’s volleyball national championships will be on first-year BYU head coach Chris McGown’s staff for the upcoming season.

    Mike Wilton and Carl McGown will be assistant coaches for the Cougars men’s volleyball team during the 2012 season, the BYU athletics department announced Thursday.

  • Q&A with new BYU head coach Chris McGown

    Chris McGown can’t help but have a little flashback every time he enters his BYU coaching office.

    As a teenager McGown would run into the same office every week to visit his father, Carl McGown the BYU men’s volleyball head coach. Almost 25 years later it is now the son working out that office — and just like his father working to coach BYU to a NCAA championship.

    The Cougars in June hired McGown, an assistant coach with the BYU women’s volleyball team, to become the new head coach of the BYU men’s volleyball team.
