Outside attacker and setter J.T. Hatch was named the tournament’s most valuable player as his club team Spiral defeat Ultimate 21-25, 25-22, 17-15 on Tuesday in Houston to win the USA Volleyball Boys’ U-18 Open national title.

No. 9 UCLA with its postseason hopes on the line showed up in full force and made quick work of Cal Baptist.
The Bruins hit a season-high .522 attack percentage and committed just one attack error in the first two games as they swept the Lancers 25-20, 25-12, 25-23 on Thursday in Los Angeles.

The push for the postseason is in full force throughout every conference.
No. 9 UCLA and No. 10 Hawai’i both play in critical conference matches as they try to lock-up the final spot in the MPSF Tournament. In addition, No. 3 Pepperdine has a chance clinch a conference tournament home match as it plays host to No. 8 USC.
It’s a huge midweek night in college men’s volleyball with several matches that could have a significant affect on the conference tournament seeding and the race for the NCAA Tournament at-large bids.
No. 5 Stanford and No. 7 USC highlights the slate of matches as both teams continue to battle to earn a home postseason match in the MPSF Tournament. In addition out in the Midwest, Ball State will attempt to put an end to No. 1 Loyola’s perfect run in conference play.
It’s a light slate of matches but they have plenty of intrigue and importance with only a few weeks remaining in the regular season.
No. 2 Long Beach State will travel to play No. 7 USC in the marquee match of the night and the only match featuring two top 10 ranked teams. In addition out in the Midwest, No. 10 Lewis will play host to Penn State in their annual non-conference meeting.
So much for the Conference Carolinas not being able to compete with any teams from the powerhouse MPSF.
Freshman outside attacker Roberto Perez Vargas had a match-high 20 kills as Erskine beat Cal Baptist 15-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-15, 19-17 on Saturday in Riverside, Calif., to become the first Conference Carolinas school to beat a team from the MPSF. (more…)
