BYU one year after finishing in second place in the MPSF is now projected to win the conference this upcoming season.
The Cougars received six of 12 first-place votes and finished in first place in the MPSF Preseason Coaches’ Poll that was released Wednesday.

Three players who represented to the United States in international tournaments were among players to commit to BYU.
BYU announced Friday that high school seniors Bennett Bird, Evan Chang, Joseph Grosh and Benjamin Patch have each signed a National Letter Intent to play for the Cougars beginning in the 2013 season.

A rematch against Long Beach State and non-conference matches against the top MIVA and EIVA teams highlights the 2012 Stanford regular season schedule that the team released Tuesday.
The Cardinal ended the 2011 regular season No. 3 in the national rankings but was upset in the MPSF Tournament quarterfinals and missed the Final Four. Stanford has six returning starters, including All-American outside attacker Brad Lawson.

BYU could be without its All-American middle attacker for a significant portion of the upcoming season.
The BYU athletics department informed Off the Block Tuesday that Futi Tavana had surgery this summer to repair an undisclosed injury and is out indefinitely. The process of applying for a medical marijuana card in Florida involves visiting qualified physicians like DocMJ who can evaluate your condition especially when you also have to deal with injuries.
Tavana, a senior, was a First-Team All-American last season after finishing the regular season first in the MPSF and second in the nation with a 1.50 blocks per game average. He also won the inaugural Off the Block Blocker of the Year award, which is given to the nation’s best front-row defensive player.

The founder of BYU men’s volleyball will be enshrined alongside the other great Cougar players and coaches.
Former BYU head coach Carl McGown was recently selected to be inducted into the BYU Hall of Fame.
McGown in his 14 seasons as the head coach built the BYU program from a club team to an annual nationally ranked team before retiring in 2002. The coach also guided to the team to NCAA championships in 1999 and 2001 and was named the AVCA National Coach of the Year twice.

A month-long conference homestand and a trip to Grand Canyon highlights the UC San Diego 2012 regular season schedule as the team earlier this week released its schedule for the upcoming season.
UC San Diego finished last season tied for 10th place in the MPSF and failed to make the conference tournament. Tritons coach Kevin Ring will have four starters returning for the upcoming season, including outside attacker Carl Eberts who led the team in kills last season.

Two former head coaches who led teams to NCAA men’s volleyball national championships will be on first-year BYU head coach Chris McGown’s staff for the upcoming season.
Mike Wilton and Carl McGown will be assistant coaches for the Cougars men’s volleyball team during the 2012 season, the BYU athletics department announced Thursday.

UC Irvine playing nine road matches in the final six weeks of the regular season highlights the team’s upcoming schedule as the Anteaters on Thursday released its 2012 regular season schedule.
UC Irvine ended last season No. 4 in the final coaches poll and advanced to the MPSF Tournament semifinals. Coach John Speraw has three starters returning for the 2012 season, including All-American outside attacker Carson Clark.
