For the first time 17 years, a team has won back-to-back men’s volleyball NCAA championships.
The No. 2 seed UC Irvine swept the No. 1 seed BYU on Saturday in Los Angeles to win its second consecutive national championship and the program’s fourth title in the last seven years. Both the BYU and UC Irvine fans turned out for the national championship and helped it become one of the highest attended finals in recent history.
The No. 2 seed UC Irvine swept the No. 1 seed BYU to repeat as national champions Saturday at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion in front of a crowd of 6,295 people — the highest attended NCAA championship match since 1999 that didn’t feature the host school playing in the match.

All the talk going into the NCAA Tournament championship was the star power both teams had at outside attacker, but it was a career performance from a middle attacker that made all the difference for UC Irvine.
Scott Kevorken had a match-high 11 blocks and .600 attack percentage as the No. 2 seed UC Irvine swept the No. 1 seed BYU 25-23, 25-22, 26-24 on Saturday in Los Angeles to repeat as NCAA champions.
After four months and more than 500 matches across the country, one remaining match will decide the winner of the national championship.
The No. 1 seed BYU and the No. 2 seed UC Irvine will both try to capture their fourth national title in program history as the two teams meet in the NCAA Tournament championship match.
