  • Top college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

    The season’s biggest weekend for non-conference matches gets even bigger tonight.

    No. 10 Stanford will play host to No. 2 Loyola at the AVCA Showcase in a rematch of last season’s NCAA championship match that will be nationally televised on the PAC-12 Network. In addition, No. 4 UC Santa Barbara and No. 9 Lewis will attempt to remain undefeated as both teams play nationally ranked teams tonight. (more…)

    The season’s biggest weekend for non-conference matches has arrived in full force.

    Three non-conference tournament all featuring nationally ranked teams will take place tonight, including the defending champions No. 2 Loyola playing No. 6 BYU at the AVCA Showcase.   • BYU, UCLA, Stanford top preseason social media rankings

    BYU will once again enter the college men’s volleyball season leading the social media rankings and by a sizable margin.

    A recent Off the Block analysis of NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball team Twitter accounts showed that BYU has more than double the amount of followers compared to any other team in the nation. (more…)

  • Off the Block releases watch list for inaugural Bryan Ivie Award

    Twelve college men’s volleyball players have been selected to the 2015 watch list for a new national award this upcoming season.

    Off the Block on Monday announced the watch list for the inaugural Bryan Ivie Award, which is presented to the best opposite in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball during the regular season. (more…)

  • Off the Block releases watch list for 2015 Lloy Ball Award

    Fourteen college men’s volleyball players have been selected to the 2015 watch list for the annual Lloy Ball Award.

    Off the Block on Tuesday unveiled the watch list for the national award that is presented to the best setter in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball during the regular season. (more…)

  • Q&A with BYU coach McGown about upcoming season

    Life without graduated four-time All-American outside attacker Taylor Sander will be an adjustment for BYU coach Chris McGown, but it’s a challenge he is embracing.

    McGown said in a recent interview with Off the Block that despite not having a returning All-American player, BYU has now more overall depth on its roster than it had in previous seasons.

  • BYU signs two highly ranked high school recruits

    Both a former member of the U.S. Boys Youth National Team and a high school conference player of the year recipient have committed to BYU.

    BYU announced Tuesday that high school seniors Branden Oberender and Alex Ah Sue signed national letters of intent to join the Cougars following their two-year church missions.

  • Bracketology: Top 5 MPSF teams’ non-conference schedules for 2015

    The season is still about two months away but several MPSF teams already have an advantage over other conference opponents in the race for a spot in the NCAA Tournament because of their non-conference schedules.

    Off the Block using the same criteria as the NCAA Tournament selection committee analyzed non-conference schedules of MPSF teams that have released their complete 2015 schedules to determine what teams could have an advantage come Selection Saturday.
