Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

Five of the top 10 nationally ranked teams have already lost this week and there is a chance more could go down tonight.

No. 10 UC Irvine and No. 5 UC Santa Barbara highlights tonight’s matches with both teams looking to get a rebound victory. In addition, Grand Canyon will try to continue its best start to a season in program history as it plays host to George Mason in a non-conference match.

Raucous sold-out crowd helps lift No. 5 BYU past No. 8 Stanford

All-American outside attacker Taylor Sander provided the offense and the BYU crowd provided the raucous atmosphere to help keep the Cougars undefeated in conference play.

Sander had a match-high 18 kills and five blocks as No. 5 BYU defeated No. 8 Stanford 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21 on Friday in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,248 people at the Smith Fieldhouse.

Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

There are critical early-season conference matches from coast-to-coast tonight in college men’s volleyball.

No. 1 Pepperdine and No. 5 BYU will attempt to stay undefeated in the MPSF as they both play top-10 nationally ranked teams. In addition, not to be overlooked on the East Coast is a match-up between Mount Olive and Limestone, two of the preseason favorites to represent the Conference Carolinas in the NCAA Tournament.

Q&A with Pepperdine men’s volleyball coach Marv Dunphy

Being ranked No. 1 in the nation just isn’t that big of a deal for Pepperdine.

Pepperdine coach Marv Dunphy said in an interview with Off the Block earlier this week that while his team is happy to be atop the national rankings for the first time in four years it’s more focused on the big picture and being the best team at the end of the season.
