  • Video: CSUN assistant coach reacts to first conference win

    No. 12 CSUN pulled off an upset of No. 8/8 UC Irvine in #CincoSets on Friday night in Northridge, California by winning the final game, 22-20. This was the Matadors’ first conference win on the year, who have been struggling to find production out of their opposites. Tonight, their opposites combined for 9 kills and 10 errors on 28 attempts. Outside attacker Dimitar Kalchev had 22 kills to pace CSUN. The CSUN middle attackers combined for 24 kills on 35 errorless swings. Check out the post-match interview with CSUN assistant coach Theo Edwards as conducted by associate editor Jonathan Bates.

  • Highlights: No. 12 CSUN upsets No. 8/8 UC Irvine in #CincoSets

    In a #CincoSets match that featured 49 ties, including 17 in the final game, No. 12 CSUN prevailed over No. 8/8 UC Irvine on Friday night in Northridge, California. Both setters dished out over 60 assists on the night, and both pairs of middle attackers had efficient performances. CSUN middle attacker Paul Rzepniewski and Daniel Wetter combined for 24 kills on 35 errorless-swings. UC Irvine middle attackers Scott Stadick and Patrick Sohacki combined for 23 kills while attacking at . 462 clip. UC Irvine opposite Karl Apfelbach and CSUN outside attacker both had 22 kills to lead their respective teams. UC Irvine had 2 aces on 24 service errors, while CSUN had 9 aces on 16 aces. UC Irvine outhit CSUN, .433 to .297, and outblocked them 11 to 5, but prevailed in the end, in part, due to siding out at 85% clip in the final game.

  • MPSF Tournament: Possible seeding scenarios, postseason berths

    Three teams still have a chance to win the MPSF regular season title and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament entering the final week of the regular season.

    The top seed in the MPSF Tournament gets a first-round bye and plays host to the semifinals and finals. In addition, the No. 2-4 seeds in this seven-team tournament field earn the right to host the first-round match at home. (more…)

    The final week of the ConfCarolinas regular season is here and plenty remains on the line with teams battling for a chance to get a postseason home match.

    The format for the eight-team ConfCarolinas Tournament features the top-four teams earning home court for the quarterfinals and then the highest remaining seed hosting the both semifinal matches and the finals. (more…)

  • EIVA Tournament: Possible seeding scenarios, postseason berths

    Two weeks remain in the EIVA regular season, and the seeding scenarios are still wide open for the EIVA Tournament.

    The EIVA Tournament is the toughest conference tournament to make in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball. Unlike other conferences where all or the overwhelming majority of teams make the postseason, only the top four teams in the EIVA make its tournament.

    The EIVA regular season championship also gets to serve as the host site for the entire conference tournament — both the semifinals and finals.
