Nothing beats the drama of a decisive fifth game. Scratch that, we mean Cinco Sets — the phrase used on social media to describe these college men’s volleyball matches that go to the tiebreaking final game.
The phrase is so popular, there is now even Cinco Sets clothing and Cinco Sets coffee mugs.
The driving force behind the growth of the #CincoSets hashtag has been Off the Block associate editor Jonathan Bates. While he popularized the term, EIVA commissioner Ivan Marquez inspired the term for matches that go to a fifth game.
Off the Block, following the suggestion of former Lincoln-Memorial assistant coach Cody Jankowski, is now keeping a running total of how many matches went cinco. Check back through the season as this page will be updated after any match goes cinco.
