Sacred Heart is returning to its longtime men’s volleyball home.
The EIVA announced Monday that its coaches unanimously voted to have Sacred Heart rejoin the conference in 2025.
Sacred Heart initially joined the EIVA in 1993 and departed after the 2022 season when the school’s primary athletics conference, the NEC, started to sponsor men’s volleyball. The Pioneers, though, opted to leave the NEC at the end of this school year and joining the Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference, which doesn’t sponsor men’s volleyball
“We are very happy to have Sacred Heart coming back to the EIVA,” EIVA Commissioner Russ Yurk said in a statement. “With the school’s long membership previously, there was already a lot of familiarity. Combining that with their plans for the future, there was very little debate among our coaches about the decision.”
The addition of Sacred Heart will expand the EIVA to seven teams for the 2025 season.
Sacred Heart is 2-3 in non-conference against EIVA opponents this season, including an upset victory against then-No. 10/10 Princeton in February. The Pioneers also are in five place in the NEC and have a chance to clinch a berth to the NEC Tournament.
