Long Beach State defeated Hawai’i in four games in the NCAA Tournament finals on Saturday to become the sixth program in college men’s volleyball history to repeat as national champions. Hawai’i after its postseason run earned every second-place vote to finish at No. 2 in the national rankings.
Among the movement in the new National Media Poll included the Princeton jumping into the rankings at No. 9.
This is the first time in its program history that the Tigers have been ranked in the National Media Poll. Princeton won the EIVA championship for the first time in 21 years and in the NCAA Tournament defeated Barton in the play-in match and almost upset Pepperdine in the opening round.
The National Media Poll is the only rankings in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball solely determined by media members. The 10 teams receiving the most votes are ranked in the National Media Poll, while other schools earning votes but finishing outside of the top 10 are considered teams receiving votes.
A new National Media Poll is released every Tuesday during the regular season on Off the Block’s website. The season’s final National Media Poll is released at the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament.
