Volleyball Magazine reveals 2012 Player of the Year, All-American teams

USC continued to pick up more individual national accolades — almost sweeping Volleyball Magazine’s top three annual awards.

Trojans outside attacker Tony Ciarelli was named the 2012 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year, while setter Micah Christenson won the Freshman of the Year award. In addition, USC coach Bill Ferguson and former UC Irvine coach John Speraw both earned the magazine’s Coach of the Year honors.

The Trojans won the MPSF regular season championship and received the lone at-large bid to the four-team NCAA Tournament. USC reached the NCAA championship match before losing to UC Irvine in three games — the third time in the last six that the Anteaters won the national title.

  1. I think it is wonderful that Joe Smalzer & Mike Bunting were at least picked. I watched both of them play Loyola Chicago and both give their heartsm out during a game. It doesen’t matter how much Bunting is hurting he will continue to give his all. Joe is one who tries to get others whether students or faculty to attend the various sports and cheer on the student athletes. I have a lot of respect for both of them along with the rest of the athletes. For them to be picked for the 2nd & 3rd teams I consider it an honor when you see who their completion was. Good Luck Joe m& Mike.
