Loyola, Harvard highlight tourney field for 2013 Morgan Classic

Loyola for the first time in more than 10 years will return to one of the most historic NCAA volleyball non-conference tournaments.

The Volleyball Hall of Fame announced Monday that Loyola along with Juniata, Harvard and the host school Springfield will compete in the four-team 2013 Morgan Classic on Feb. 1-2 in Holyoke, Mass.

Springfield pounds Lees-McRae in sweep to win Morgan Classic title

The college that is the birthplace of volleyball is now champions of the oldest college men’s volleyball non-conference tournament.

Springfield swept Lees-McRae 25-21, 25-15, 27-25 on Saturday in Springfield, Mass., to win the Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic championship for the first time in its program history.

Top 5 storylines to follow at the Outrigger Invitational

There are more than enough intriguing storylines this year for one of the oldest and most prestigious non-conference tournaments in NCAA men’s volleyball history.

Hawai’i, No. 9 Lewis, Springfield and No. 3 UCLA will begin play today at the three-day Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu. Each team will play each other once in tournament’s round-robin format and will conclude with a nationally televised match between UCLA and the host school Hawai’i.

Hawai’i releases 2012 schedule: 5 things to know about this schedule

A difficult six-week conference stretch and playing host to its annual Outrigger Invitational highlights the 2012 Hawai’i regular season schedule that the team released Monday.

Hawai’i finished last season in fifth place in the MPSF and lost in the first round of the conference tournament. The Warriors return four starters for the upcoming season and also have incoming freshman outside attacker JP Marks, who played for the Germany Junior and Youth National teams.
