NCAA semifinals postmatch news conference: UC Irvine vs. Loyola

It took two overtime games, but the No. 2 seed UC Irvine was able to sweep the No. 3 seed Loyola in the NCAA Tournament semifinals on Thursday in Los Angeles to advance to the national championship match.

Q&A with Loyola men’s volleyball coach Shane Davis

Coach Shane Davis and his Loyola team may be in unfamiliar territory making its first NCAA Tournament appearance, but the Ramblers could not be more ready for the opportunity.

Loyola after winning its first MIVA Tournament championship in program history during the weekend qualified for the four-team NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play the No. 2 seed UC Irvine in the semifinals on Thursday in Los Angeles.

Projected preseason top 10 national rankings: No. 9 Loyola

Loyola is projected by Off the Block to be No. 9 in the preseason national rankings.

Off the Block throughout December will reveal its projected men’s volleyball preseason top 10 national rankings and will profile a top-10 team each day. The Off the Block projected preseason rankings were created independently of the AVCA Coaches Poll and the Volleyball Magazine Top 10 Media Poll.

The college men’s volleyball season begins on Jan. 3 and concludes with the Final Four in May.

Loyola promotes former high school All-American to starting setter

A year after graduating one of its top setters in program history, Loyola will start a former high school All-American at setter for the upcoming season.

Loyola coach Shane Davis said Wednesday that junior Matt Mirick will be the Ramblers’ starting setter when the team opens its season in January.

Loyola head coach calls Ramblers favorites, ‘team to beat’ in MIVA

Loyola coach Shane Davis isn’t holding back anything on how good he thinks his team will be this upcoming season — even in prepared statements.

Davis in an athletics department news release Friday to announce Loyola’s 2012 schedule said the Ramblers would be the conference favorites and the team to beat in the MIVA for 2012 season.
