Ohio State, Pacific players win Springbak, Inc. Co-National Freshman of the Week

Freshmen from Ohio State and Pacific following career performances have now each earned a share to one of the biggest college men’s volleyball individual weekly awards.

Off the Block announced Monday that Ohio State setter Christy Blough and Pacific opposite Thomas Hodges were selected as the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Co-National Freshman of the Week.

Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

Several teams outside the top 10 of the national rankings have a chance to get a statement victory tonight.

Hawai’i and Cal State Northridge highlight the slate of matches tonight as both teams try to move up in the MPSF standings. In addition, Princeton will attempt to bounce back from a winless West Coast road trip with a non-conference match against IPFW.

Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

Five of the top 10 nationally ranked teams have already lost this week and there is a chance more could go down tonight.

No. 10 UC Irvine and No. 5 UC Santa Barbara highlights tonight’s matches with both teams looking to get a rebound victory. In addition, Grand Canyon will try to continue its best start to a season in program history as it plays host to George Mason in a non-conference match.

Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

It’s a huge slate of marquee non-conference matches tonight in college men’s volleyball.

A defacto championship match at the Outrigger Invitational between UCLA and Hawai’i highlights the non-conference matches. However, not to be a overlooked by the non-conference matches is a rematch of the 2013 MPSF championship as No. 1 Long Beach State and BYU met in conference play.

Top 5 college men’s volleyball matches to follow tonight

After an eight-month wait, the first weekend to the college men’s volleyball season is finally here.

The first weekend of the regular season begins with a marquee match-up as No. 3 BYU travels to take on No. 7 Loyola. In addition, out in the West Coast the UC Santa Barbara Invitational starts with exhibition pool-play matches.

Season Preview: 5 teams that may surprise everyone in 2014

There are teams that have high preseason expectations and than there are those teams that enter a season will little fanfare but become the biggest surprises of the year.

Whether it’s Long Beach State last year overcoming little preseason hype to almost reach the NCAA Tournament or UC Santa Barbara’s postseason run to the 2011 NCAA finals, each season tends to feature teams that surprise everyone.

2014 Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Preseason All-American Teams released

A nationwide voting committee selected 21 players to the annual Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Preseason All-American Teams.

The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Preseason All-American Teams recognizes the NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball players projected to be the best in the nation during the upcoming season.

Two Pacific players to transfer to Ohio State for 2015 season

Two current members of the soon-to-be dissolved Pacific men’s volleyball team will transfer to Ohio State following the 2014 season.

Ohio State coach Pete Hanson announced during the weekend that Pacific outside attacker Peter Edwards and setter Marco Grasso will join the Buckeyes roster beginning in 2015.
