UCLA, Penn State, Ohio State to return to Hawai’i for 2014 Outrigger Invitational

Hawai’i coach Charlie Wade is getting his ideal tournament field for the upcoming Outrigger Invitational.

Wade said Monday in an interview with Off the Block that for the second consecutive year Penn State, Ohio State and UCLA will participate along with Hawai’i at its annual home tournament during the 2014 season.

USC recruit Yoder wins bronze for USA at Youth World Championship

An incoming freshman recruit for USC has now added an international tournament medal to his resume before playing with the Trojans.

USC recruit Lucas Yoder and his partner TJ DeFalco representing the United States beat Lithuania’s Lukas Kazdailis and Arnas Rumsevicius 22-24, 21-18, 15-8 to win the bronze medal at the FIVB Boys’ U19 Youth World Championships for beach volleyball on Sunday in Portugal.

Princeton adds Ball State, IPFW to 2014 non-conference schedule

Changes are coming to Princeton’s non-conference schedule for the upcoming season with more Midwest teams traveling to Dillon Gym.

Princeton coach Sam Shweisky said earlier this week in an interview with Off the Block that his team will play home non-conference matches against Ball State and IPFW during the 2014 season.

UC Santa Barbara Invitational changes format for 2014 season

The UC Santa Barbara Invitational on its 40th anniversary will have a revamped look for the 2014 season.

UC Santa Barbara coach Rick McLaughlin said Wednesday that the annual non-conference tournament will undergo numerous format changes for the upcoming season including adding a pool-play round and decreasing the matches counting towards a team’s overall season record.

U.S. loses to Russia to be eliminated from Youth World Championship

The United States could not get past the pool-play champions Russia and saw its hopes of winning the Youth World Championships come to a quick end.

Russia out-blocked the United States 10-5 as it swept the United States 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 in the Round of 16 at the FIVB Boys’ U-19 World Championship on Wednesday in Mexico.

Penn State, Long Beach State to play each other in 2014 season

For the first time in three years, Penn State and Long Beach State will play each other in non-conference play.

Nittany Lions coach Mark Pavlik said in a recent interview with Off the Block that Penn State will travel to play Long Beach State as part of the annual Active Ankle Tournament during the 2014 season.
