What to know: The Mastodons are back in a familiar place – playing a road postseason match. Purdue Fort Wayne one year after winning two road matches to become the first No. 6 seed to reach the MIVA Tournament finals will continue to travel for the postseason as it plays Lewis in the conference quarterfinals. Opposite Jon Diedrich leads the Mastodons and is in the nation’s top 20 with a 3.70 kills per game average. The senior also had at least 15 kills in seven MIVA matches, including 16 kills in a four-game victory against the Flyers in February. Purdue Fort Wayne dropped to the No. 5 seed after losing last week to both Ball State and Ohio State, the tri-MIVA regular season champions. The Mastodons in each of those matches utilized two setters – Zach Solomon and Sergio Carrillo. Solomon was the starting setter last year when Purdue Fort Wayne reached the conference finals, while Carrillo playing for North Greenville helped the Crusaders win the ConfCarolinas championship. Lewis in the most recent meeting against Purdue Fort Wayne limited the Mastodons to less than a .100 attack percentage en route to a four-game home win. Middle attacker Michael Sack led all players with a season-high seven blocks. Sack also is in the top 15 of the conference with a 0.71 blocks per game average. Along with Sack, opposite Christian Prayer is in the MIVA’s top 10 averaging both 3.16 kills per game and 0.40 aces per game. Lewis is attempting to reach the MIVA Tournament semifinals for the 15th consecutive season. In addition, the Flyers have not lost a home postseason match since 2017.
