One of the top players in the MPSF is coming to Pepperdine.

The Waves unveiled earlier this week that All-MPSF opposite Jaylen Jasper will play for Pepperdine as a graduate transfer during the 2022 season.

Jasper in 2020 finished seventh in the nation with a 4.11 kills per game average en route to earning First-Team All-MPSF honors for the second time in his career. The Maryland native had at least 20 kills in three matches that year, including a season-high 28 kills on a .400 attack percentage in a five-game loss to Pepperdine.

The 2022 season will be the first time in almost two years that Jasper will play a competitive match.

Jasper opted out of the 2021 season that took place in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and the pending elimination of the Stanford men’s volleyball program. Stanford, though, following the season opted to reverse its initial decision to terminate the program.

Along with his college experience, Jasper was among the 26 players recently named to the U.S. Men’s Collegiate National Team. The opposite also was a member of the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team and had 11 aces in a NORCECA Continental Championship match in 2018.

Pepperdine returns a majority of starters for the upcoming season after finishing in third place in the MPSF and earning the final at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Waves under head coach David Hunt won the MPSF championship in 2019 and have made the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons.
