The ConfCarolinas Offensive Player of the Year will be taking his game to one of the biggest international stages.

Mount Olive outside attacker Tobi Azeez was selected to the Australian Men’s National Team roster for the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

Azeez finished his junior season leading the nation with a 4.58 kills per game average as he led the Trojans to the ConfCarolinas regular season championship and the conference tournament finals. The outside attacker also had at least 20 kills in four consecutive matches to conclude the season, including a season-high 33 kills on a .403 attack percentage in a victory against rival Barton.

Along with earning the top ConfCarolinas award, Azeez was a finalist for the Karch Kiraly Award as the nation’s top outside attacker, the Nicolas Szerszen as the nation’s top international player, the Division II National Player of the Year and the Dain Blanton Diversity Award.

Azeez is one of the youngest players on the 19-player tournament roster for Australia.

Among the other players on the Australian roster includes former Charleston outside attacker Max Senica.

The Volleyball Nations League will take place May 28 through June 27 in Rimini, Italy. The 16-team tournament will feature each team playing 15 preliminary round matches with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals.

All matches will be played in a secure bubble for players and staff with no fan attendance because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Australia ended the 2019 Volleyball Nations League in 13th place with victories against Germany, Portugal and China.
