Daemen setter named Independent Teams Player of Week

A junior who helped Daemen complete its undefeated regular season is earning a college men’s volleyball award.

Off the Block announced Monday that setter Michael Krueger was selected as the Off the Block Independent Teams Player of the Week.

Krueger had 43 assists and guided the offense to a .351 attack percentage, while defensively adding four blocks and a team-high six digs as Daemen defeated St. Francis Brooklyn in four games on Saturday. The setter also guided Daemen to hit .282 and led all players with nine digs in a four-game victory versus St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday to open the two-match series.

With these victories, the Wildcats conclude their season at 10-0 and remain one of two undefeated teams in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball.

The eight independent teams this season are Alderson Broaddus, Daemen, D’Youville, Limestone, Lincoln Memorial, Queens, St. Francis Brooklyn and Tusculum.

Off the Block determines the Independent Teams Player of the Week based on a variety of factors, including a player’s individual performance and how a player’s team fared during the week.

The winner of the Independent Teams Player of the Week is unveiled every week during the regular season on the Off the Block website, offtheblockblog.com.
