The only senior or graduate student on the Tusculum roster will be back for the program’s second season.

Coach Eddie Pennington informed Off the Block that graduate student libero Peter Stewart has opted to return for the 2021 season.

The NCAA granted men’s volleyball players an extra year of eligibility after the remainder of the 2020 season was canceled in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. This eligibility ruling, which applied to all student-athletes in spring sports, resulted in seniors being able to return for the 2021 season.

Stewart appeared in 15 matches during the Pioneers’ inaugural season and was second on the team with a 1.49 digs per game average. Among the top performances for the team’s only upperclassman included a season-high 13 digs in a five-game victory against Urbana.

Tusculum competing as an independent was 5-14 and 3-2 against other NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball independent teams at the time the 2020 season was canceled.
