What to know: One of the top pin-hitter combinations in the nation will go up against one of the best blocking teams in the nation as No. 3 BYU continues its Midwest road trip against No. 6 Lewis. Preseason All-American opposite Gabi Garcia Fernandez had both a match-high 22 kills on a .415 attack percentage and four aces in BYU’s four-game victory against No. 11 Loyola on Friday. In addition, Preseason All-American outside attacker Davide Gardini finished with 21 kills while hitting .424 in the season-opening win. Both Fernandez and Gardini entered this season after finishing last season in the nation’s top 25 averaging more than 3.40 kills per game. Lewis en route to winning the MIVA championship and reaching the NCAA Tournament semifinals last season finished fourth in the nation with a 2.55 blocks per game average. Preseason All-American middle attacker Tyler Mitchem led the Flyers and was in the nation’s top 15 averaging 1.08 blocks per game in 2019. He also had a nation-best .504 attack percentage, including hitting more than .400 in all five postseason matches. In the team’s season-opening victory against King, Mitchem led all players with 11 kills on a .692 attack percentage. The Flyers also out-hit the Tornado .614 to negative-.018 in the sweep on Friday.
