A high school All-American is arriving to Daemen just in time for 2020.

The second-year program announced Monday evening on its official Twitter account that freshman Zach Schneider has joined team and will play during the upcoming season.

Schneider, a 6-foot-6 outside attacker from Lockport, New York, was named an AVCA First-Team High School Senior All-American after leading his school to the state regionals last season. He also earned the 2018 Western New York Player the Year as the team won its fourth consecutive league title.

Along with his high school performance, Schneider was selected U.S. Boys’ Youth National Training Team in 2018.

Schneider previously committed to Long Beach State and was preparing to play for the defending national champions following his high school graduation earlier this year.

Daemen, the only NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball program in upstate New York, finished its inaugural season at 6-17 and in fourth place at the IVA Tournament.

The Wildcats under coach Don Gleason will continue to compete as an independent team in 2020. In addition, Daemen will open its season with a home match against UCLA on Jan. 2
