Stevenson outside attacker Landon Shorts is capping off his college career with a national honor.
Off the Block announced Thursday that a nationwide voting committee selected Shorts as the Off the Block/Molten Division III National Outside Attacker of the Year.
The Division III National Outside Attacker of the Year is an annual award presented by Off the Block that recognizes the top outside attacker in NCAA Division III men’s volleyball during the season.
Shorts was among the national leaders averaging 3.06 kills per game and fifth in the Middle Atlantic with a .311 attack percentage. The All-American senior also was fourth in the country with a 0.70 aces per game average, including having five or more aces in five matches.
Along with his offensive performance, Shorts had a career-high 228 digs as he helped Stevenson finish at No. 8 in the national coaches poll and win a share of the Middle Atlantic regular season championship.
The voting committee for this national award was comprised of about 20 NCAA Division III men’s volleyball coaches from around the nation. The top-three vote-getters were named finalists and the student-athlete receiving the most votes was named the award winner.
Shorts received 30 votes — seven more votes than the runner-up SUNY New Paltz outside attacker Nick Smith. The other finalist Carthage outside attacker Matt Slivinski earned 11 votes.
The National Outside Attacker of the Year is one of five Division III national awards that Off the Block presents. It also presents the Off the Block/Molten Division III National Setter of the Year, Off the Block/Molten Division III National Opposite of the Year, the Off the Block/Molten Division III National Middle Attacker of the Year and Off the Block/Molten Division III National Libero of the Year.
Off the Block is a national award winning website and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage. Molten is the official volleyball supplier of NCAA Division III men’s volleyball and is the 2019 sponsor of the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball National Awards.
