The setter who guided Kean to be one of the top offenses in the nation is now earning the top individual honor for his position.
Off the Block and Molten announced Monday that a nationwide voting committee selected Kean setter Ian Capp as the recipient of the 2019 Off the Block/Molten Division III National Setter of the Year.
The Division III National Setter of the Year is an annual award presented by Off the Block that recognizes the top setter in NCAA Division III men’s volleyball during the season.
Capp had a 7.34 assists per game average and helped Kean finish in the nation’s top 15 with a .274 attack percentage. The two-time All-American also had a 1.54 kills per game average while hitting .378.
Along with his offensive performance, Capp was second in the country averaging 0.78 aces per game and had at least five aces in seven matches.
Kean was ranked No. 3 in the national coaches poll towards the end of the regular season and finished in second place in the CVC.
The voting committee for this national awards was comprised of about 20 NCAA Division III men’s volleyball coaches from around the nation. The top-four vote-getters were named finalists and the student-athlete receiving the most votes was named the award winner.
Capp received 26 votes — seven more votes than the runner-up SUNY New Paltz setter Matthew Grace. Carthage setter Matt Reinsel finished in third place with 15 votes, while MSOE setter Quin Krisik rounded out the top four with 14 votes.
The National Setter of the Year is one of five Division III national awards that Off the Block presents. The other awards presented are the Off the Block/Molten Division III National Opposite of the Year, Off the Block/Molten Division III National Outside Attacker of the Year, the Off the Block/Molten Division III National Middle Attacker of the Year and Off the Block/Molten Division III National Libero of the Year.
