Now the two teams will meet again less than 24 hours after the 49ers ended the Rainbow Warriors’ undefeated season in a decisive fifth game. All-American outside attacker TJ DeFalco in the opener of the two-match series led Long Beach State with 18 kills on .500 attack percentage. In addition, DeFalco had a match-high four aces and was at the service line during a 5-0 run for the 49ers in the fifth game. Long Beach State opposite Kyle ensign also had a team-high 18 kills on a .326 attack percentage. The 49ers out-hit the Rainbow Warriors .344 to .322, including having zero errors and a match-best .615 attack percentage in a fourth-game victory to force a fifth game. Opposite Rado Parapunov in the loss had a match-high 21 kills, while outside attacker Stijn van Tilburg had 16 kills and hit .500. Both Long Beach State and Hawai’i entered this series already having clinched the top-two seeds and byes to the semifinals for the Big West Tournament. The 49ers can clinch the No. 1 seed and the Big West regular season championship with a victory. The Rainbow also remain contention for a co-Big West regular season title if they win and the No. 1 seed if they win in three or four games. If Hawai’i wins in five games, the next tiebreaker used to determine the No. 1 seed will be head-to-head point differential.
