McKendree jumps back into Division II coaches poll

Fresh off a weekend where they upset where they upset the 12th ranked team in the nation on the road, McKendree jumps into the latest Division II coaches poll released on Tuesday.

No. 1 Lewis received all 16 first place votes this week, and extended their lead over the rest of the pack in the poll.

Lewis started MIVA conference play this past weekend by sweeping Lindenwood and Quincy on the road. Junior outside attacker Ryan Coenen had a combined 20 kills in the pair of matches. This coming weekend, the Flyers host Ball State and Purdue Fort Wayne.

No. 2 Barton was off this past week but play three home conference matches this week – against King, Lees-McRae, and Mount Olive. Outside attacker Angelos Mandilaris ranks in the two top on the team in aces per game, attacks per game, blocks per game, digs per game, attack percentage, kills per game, and points per game.

No. 3 UC San Diego lost in four games in their first match of conference play to UC Irvine. The Tritons were led by outside attacker Wyatt Harrison’s 17 kills. This week, UC San Diego travels to Irvine for the return match with Eaters before hosing UC Santa Barbara.

No. 4 Concordia-Irvine started MPSF play by defeating Grand Canyon in four games. Outside attacker Jordan Hoppe had 20 kills and three aces in the winning effort. This coming weekend, the Eagles travel to BYU and Stanford.

No. 5 McKendree jumps back into the poll after a two week absence.

Last weekend, the Bearcats used 27 blocks to swept Ball State before taking Purdue Fort Wayne to #CincoSets. This weekend McKendree hosts Lindenwood before traveling to Quincy.

Also receiving votes this week are Lincoln Memorial, North Greenville, and King.

Both NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II men’s volleyball programs compete for the same national championship. The AVCA National Coaches Poll ranks the top 15 Division I-II men’s volleyball teams and is released each Monday during the regular season.

A national voting committee comprised of coaches from the more than 20 Division II teams determines the weekly rankings for the Division II National Coaches Poll.

Off the Block is a website that launched in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.

The Division II National Coaches Poll will be released on the Off the Block website every Tuesday during the regular season.
