EIVA promotes Yurk to be conference’s new executive director

The EIVA’s associate commissioner and the former director of the men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament will now assume the top office with the conference.

Russ Yurk was named the new EIVA executive director at the annual league meetings on Tuesday, according to a social media post from the EIVA executive director emeritus Ivan Marquez.

Yurk was named the conference’s associate commissioner in December. Within his first six months in the position, the conference reached a new partnership to online broadcast its conference tournament and continued to work to grow college men’s volleyball on the East Coast.

Before joining the EIVA, Yurk spent six years with the NCAA as the assistant director of championships. In that role, he served as the championship manager for the men’s volleyball NCAA Tournament.

He also spent two years as the NCAA assistant director of brand strategies and events before leaving the NCAA to become the director of events at USA Football.

Yurk has almost 25 years of experience in event management and project development at the college and national level. Among some of his roles included the director of operations for the 2017 World Rowing Championships and the regional logistics manager with the organizing committee for the 2002 Olympics.

Yurk will succeed Marquez, who is retiring from his position after almost 25 years with the EIVA.

The EIVA under Marquez expanded to eight NCAA Division I-II teams and remained one of the five conferences to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
